After my grandmother was diagnosed with dementia we realized we’d lost a generations’ worth of stories
Nanto and Lygia (Gabriel and Thomas’s paternal grandparents) passed when they were young, and their maternal grandfather, David, followed a few years ago. After our grandmother (Caren’s mom) was diagnosed with dementia we started to record my family history so we could have a long-surviving record of our roots that didn’t rely on a person’s organization or memory to be passed down. My great aunt, the eldest of five siblings, sat down for a 6-hour conversation to help pin down as many family stories as possible.
